Your first tarot deck does not have to be a gift. I don't know where this started but we hear it every week. It makes no sense. Pick out a tarot deck that speaks to you and do NOT wait for it to be given to you. If you get one as a gift, it may not even be one that you connect with the art. I think tarot decks are very personal so please get the one you like or collect several! Also, same with opals. Opal don't have to be given to you. If you want an opal, get one.
