This album places Heather's vocals and piano in the forefront, against a lush setting of strings, electric & acoustic guitars, Irish flute, percussion, and uillean pipes (Irish bagpipes). This CD is mainly Celtic, most pagans will thoroughly enjoy it as it has many pagan undertones. The Three Queens is the most beautiful Triple Goddess song I have ever heard. Blackmore delivers some stinging electric guitar solos that recall his glory days with Deep Purple and Rainbow, with a new acoustic sensitivity throughout. Particularly effective are an emotional cover of Joan Baez's ""Diamonds & Rust,"" clearly a favorite of the singer's, and the touching ""Dandelion Wine.""" $15.99 FIRES AT MIDNIGHT By Blackmore's Night Quite a mix of contradictions we have in Blackmore's Night; founded by one of metal's pioneering guitarists, but usually decked out like part of a renaissance faire. The lyrical subjects are the stuff of romance novels and D&D games, but the music spices up the medieval feeling with electric guitars and some occasional techno elements. The whole theme seems to be living in the middle ages, yet they include one modern rock cover per disk - this time, of all things, "The Times They Are A-Changing." It's enough to make your head spin.  $15.99   Blackmore's Night Beyond the Sunset - The Romantic Collection A bouquet of ballads for lovers and dreamers. This special collection includes a free NTSC DVD sampler of the Blackmores Night show from Schloss Burg in Solingen, Germany in 5.1 Surround Sound as well as 3 Christmas songs as a surprise bonus! $17.99   Blackmore's Night Village Lanterne For those of you not familiar with Blackmore's Night (however unlikely that may be), they play an impressive style of Renaissance era music, combining it with elements of new age, folk, rock, and blues, among others. Though heavily acoustic guitar driven, their songs blend a rich array of mandolins, violins, cellos, tambourines, drums, trumpets, bagpipes, and keyboards. Still retaining the classic Blackmore's Night sound, The Village Lanterne is arguably their most modern-sounding release to date. This seems to be because of the recording techniques they employed in the studio, rendering some of the pieces noticeably more contemporary than their earlier work. They are not omnipresent, however. It's more like the band and producer Pat Regan decided to incorporate some new textures and a heavier focus on atmospherics on some tracks. Songs like "Olde Village Lanterne" and "I Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore" are both marked with effective rhythmic patterns, particularly in the way the drums and percussion are played. Aside from that though, the songs are your typical Blackmore's Night numbers, highlighted by Night's convincing voice and Blackmore's crystal-clean acoustic guitar, both worth dying for.
