Tarot of OZ

The famous yellow-brick road is a fanciful variation of the hero's/heroine's journey to self-discovery. Whether we are seeking the Lion's courage in the suit of Wands, or the Tinman's heart in the suit of Cups, the yellow-brick road moves us forward to deeper understanding of ourselves and the world we inhabit.

The characters of Oz have been a part of our culture for nearly one hundred years. The Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum tapped into many primal ideas and concepts when he created this world, and today these archetypes continue to resonate strongly within the Tarot and within our psyches. The road may be whimsical, but the wisdom acquired is more valuable than a city made of emeralds.

  • The only Tarot based on the mythology of L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz
  • For collectors and intermediate/advanced Tarot practitioners
  • A light, bright, and whimsical way to explore the archetypes of the Tarot

Tarot of Oz

Author and Artist David Sexton

The Tarot of Oz is based on the series of Oz books written by L. Frank Baum between 1900 and 1920. The most famous “yellow brick road” from The Wizard of Oz is colorful variation on a story as old as stories themselves; where Dorothy takes her “fools” journey of self discovery down the yellow brick road.

The artist/author combines the traditional archetypes of the tarot with their counterparts in the Oz tales. For each Major Arcana card shows a character whose qualities reflect that card and each card has both the traditional name and character on it.

It comes in a Tarot Deck set with 78 cards and a small book.

Major Arcana - Oz Names:
Dorothy, Wizard of Oz, Glinda the Good, Ozma of Oz, Tin Woodman, Professor H. M. Wogglebug, T. E., Nimmie Amee & Chopfyt, General Jinjur, Cowardly Lion, Shaggy Man, Cyclone, Tik-Tok, Jack Pumpkinhead, Dr. Pipt, Polychrome the Rainbow's Daughter, Nome King, Deadly Desert, Scraps the Patchwork Girl, Wicked Witch of the West, Scarecrow, Great Jinjin, Fairy Queen Lurline

Minor Arcana centers around the famous four, the Scarecrow for Swords, the Tin Woodman for Cups, the Cowardly Lion for Wands and Dorothy for Stones (pentacles). The court cards are from many of the royal figures that appear in Baum’s books.

The book describes the scene or characters for each of the cards, explaining how it relates to the card’s meaning.

When I received this deck from a very dear friend of mine. I wanted to find my ruby slippers. For it takes one back to many memories of childhood days, and when time was a magical place for the young to explore. I find something new each time I use this deck as Dorothy embarks on her journey down the yellow brick road.

“ Oh we’re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz”
