Tarot Companion Dice
*Copyright 2006, Michelle Mullin
Michelle Mullin has been reading Tarot both informally
and professionally for over seven years now, utilizing
her own unique methods to provide deep empathic
readings. Through her intuition and creativity, she
has developed this set of specialized dice which work
in conjunction with any standard 78 card Tarot deck of
your choice.
Many people, whether they are beginners or experienced
readers, are likely to find that they have several
concerns in common with the issues these dice were
created to address. For instance;
How can you simplify choosing the cards for a reading
without compromising it’s accuracy? That’s a difficult
question to answer for multiple reasons!
A deep-trance reading can be time consuming and quite
energy intensive, so it's difficult to perform more
than just a few readings like that in a row.
Because of the amount of energy and concentration
required, reading for oneself can become a rare
occurrence even if there's something serious on your
mind, you may just not feel up to it.
How will you know you aren't just seeing what you want
to in the cards when you read for yourself or someone
who you care about? Could you or the other person
potentially be "leading the reading," perhaps even
causing certain cards to appear just because you want
them so badly?
The last concern may not be as much of an issue for
people who prefer to simply shuffle their cards and
deal the spread off the top of the deck rather than
picking each card individually by feel. If you feel
that method works for you, that's fine...to each their
own.
But for those who are uncomfortable with the imagery
of simply “taking what they happen to be dealt in
life;” you may feel better about “rolling the dice and
taking your chances,” so to speak, because at least
then you are specifically influencing each roll of the
dice personally in order to select your cards, but
there’s still enough of an element of chance built
into the method to prevent accidentally swaying the
results.
In short; the goal here is to have the maximum choice
of cards for every position, while minimizing the
amount of potential interference to the integrity of
the reading’s original message.
For anyone who may have wondered if the Tarot just
might not be "their thing" because they seem to have a
difficult time connecting with their intuition in that
regard... Have you considered that you may be one of
those super well-grounded people whose shields are so
solid that even YOU may have a hard time getting
through them? If so, using these dice might help you
to circumvent how you may be interfering with yourself
and allow your intuition freedom to work!
Now for those who say that one doesn’t need any tools
for an accurate reading, while these dice are not a
necessity for an empathic reading, neither are the
cards for that matter! YOU have the power, not the
cards, and not the dice either - but if there is a
tool that might effectively assist you to utilize your
intuition more fully, why not try it and see what you
think?
Actually, if you know your Tarot deck really well, you
don’t necessarily even need to have your deck along to
use the dice! That can be something pretty handy if
you can’t meet with someone privately for a reading,
but you don’t want people around you to get too snoopy
about what you’re doing like if they saw you laying
out a Tarot spread. To them, it looks like a game of
some kind; meanwhile - you conduct a stealth reading!
In addition, there are readers who may have difficulty
shuffling oftentimes oversized Tarot decks because of
naturally small hands or arthritis who may find it
easier to use the dice instead. But although the dice
can be used without a Tarot deck, they aren't intended
to necessarily replace your cards entirely!
Many people, including Michelle herself, really LOVE
to use their cards, even accumulating quite a
collection of decks because they appreciate the
gorgeous artwork each one contains and feel that the
archetypal images assist their intuition. The deck you
use can really bring an “atmosphere” to the reading
and sometimes, even if YOU don't need to look at the
cards, it may be beneficial to the understanding of
the person you are reading to see them.
That's why these dice are referred to as Tarot
Companion Dice; they are intended to work in harmony
with your cards. It doesn’t hurt that they’re really
neat-looking too!
Your bag of
Tarot Gems Companion Dice
includes:
One - 10 sided gold Basic Spread die
One - 24 sided black Major Arcana die
One - 4 sided Elemental Pyramid die
Four - 14 sided Suit dice, 1 of each color
* Cups - Sapphire Blue Water
* Pentacles - Emerald Green Earth
* Swords - Diamond Clear Air
* Wands - Ruby Red Fire
- and a handy-dandy instruction booklet!
As an example, these pictures show the Tarot Gems dice
sitting next to The Gilded Tarot deck, which is not
included in the set. However, this 7 dice set is
intended for use with any standard 78-card Tarot deck
you prefer that has 22 Major Arcana and four suits of
14 cards each.
Those who treasure their abilities and respect the
process of the reading, will surely appreciate the
trouble that has been taken to make the Tarot Gems set
as elegant as possible, because there's no reason why
spiritual or metaphysical tools should be anything
less than beautiful, quite the contrary!
Therefore, no effort has been spared to make these
dice useful and appealing, right down to hole-punching
the instruction booklet so it can be put conveniently
into a binder and every copy being hand-signed by
Michelle personally. She searched out and
specially-ordered these difficult to find dice to be
exactly what she wanted for this purpose.
The suit dice are hand-inked and the very fact that
each die in the set of seven is a different color is,
in itself, unusual. Most dice and runes are all the
same color when sold as a set; the colors chosen for
these help to differentiate the purpose of each
individual die, both to make them easier to use and
more decorative!
They resemble a handful of vivid and sparkling goblin
gems! They’re mysterious-looking, yet actually VERY
simple to use! The method outlined in the manual is
designed to make the maximum number of possible cards
available for each selection, even to include the
possibility of a card appearing more than once in a
reading, while taking the guesswork out of choosing
them!
The set comes in a high quality 3.75” X 4” satin-lined
black velvet bag which has room for the dice and some
small gemstone pebbles if you’d like to carry them to
keep your dice cleansed. As of right now, the satin
linings come in your choice of four colors, red, gold,
blue or purple.
A little information on how to use them:
Before you begin, you may want to separate out the
Major Arcana cards in your deck, grouping and sorting
those and the Minor Arcana suits by number. It’s
quicker to find the cards you need that way and you
won't be needing to shuffle the deck because we’re
using the dice to make your selections! Another
benefit is that it minimizes other people handling
your deck since they can “charge” the dice instead,
which are easier to cleanse!
For a minute you can set your deck to the side… Begin
by asking your querant to concentrate on their
question. It’s up to you if you want them to tell you
what their question is up front, but as you gain
confidence, you probably won’t find it necessary.
Tell them to think about the issue as specifically as
possible - really considering the people, choices and
emotions involved. If you like, you could have them
hold the dice and “charge” them up with their
question.
Now open yourself to sense the energy and patterns of
the Universe. Then, either you or the querant may
begin rolling the dice to select the cards for the
reading.
Simplified Instructions:
1) Roll the gold 10 sided die to find the # of Major
Arcana in the reading.
2) Roll the black 24 sided die to choose each of the
Major Arcana cards.
Since there are only 22 Major Arcana, Numbered 0-21, I
consider rolling number 22 as 0, The Fool - and if I
roll a 23 or 24, I just ignore it and roll again.
Note: There is not currently a 22-sided die numbered
0-21 available on the market, but using a 24 sided die
instead is useful for other reasons…For instance; you
could use the Major Arcana die to cast runes for your
reading because there are 24 runes!
3) Roll the 4 sided pyramid, this will choose the suit
and color of the gem die to roll next by the number
centered at the base of the pyramid.
1 - Cups / blue
2 - Pentacles / green
3 - Swords / clear
4 - Wands / red
4) Roll the color of gem indicated, and select the
card # of that suit from your deck.
5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all ten cards for the
reading are chosen.
6) Lay out the cards as desired and interpret the
spread as usual...
From there, it’s all YOU, my friends! These dice are
NOT intended, nor are they capable of replacing a
knowledgeable reader - they are a tool to help a
reader select the cards quickly, but accurately. The
placement of the cards, whether you choose to read
reverses and the interpretation is still completely up
to you!
