Golden Tarot

By Kat Black, comprised of collage imagery from the Eurpoean masters paintings, the Golden Tarot is a stunning addition to any tarot collection. The cards are beautifully treated with gilt edges and the deck is specially packaged in a deluxe display box. While the deck pays tribute to artwork of the Middle Ages and early Renaissance, it celebrates the exploration of tarot and it's artistic heritage. Kat Black's interpretation is both welcoming and modern while remaining true to the original traditions of Rider-Waite(r). Includes small book.

It is a deck of beauty and complexity in its story of publication. Kat Black originally created this deck just for herself. She had put it on the internet, generously sharing her artwork with other tarot admirers. Some unethical people pirated her Major Arcana images and published them as a Tarot Kalendar 2002 with out her knowing it. When looking into the deck and reading about the artist and such, I found that the Tarot Garden began to sell the decks and that a tarot enthusiast directed them back to Kat Black’s site, letting the artist know it had been illegally published. The Tarot Garden stopped selling copies. Many of her fans started a campaign to get the deck legally published.

The art of this deck has been taken from the years 1200 to 1500 and covers a wide range of artists and artistic styles. The deck is a college of that art created by Kat Black who is an Australian.

The 78 card deck is elegant in every way, it includes a small 200 plus companion booklet the same sizes as the cards. There is a title card and a card from the author with a brief note included. The backs are like golden tapestry.

The Golden Tarot is very well done, it took a great deal of computer experience and training to manipulate as many as 20 layers in an image, which Kat Black states there are in the cards. Black has cut bits and pieces out of old paining and placed them in Late Middle Age or Renaissance environments, which looks like the very first tarot decks that were created.

This is a beautiful deck, although not one I would use to do readings with, but one for the collection shelf, which one was given to me for mine. It is well printed, with gilt edges and a beautiful sturdy box which makes it seem priceless.
