It may seem odd to speak of vampires and virtue together but it is the belief
of the candle maker that the literary vampire represents the face of the
unconscious that Jung calls the Anima or Animus. This archetype appears in
dreams as a lover who at first seems threatening and full of fearful shadow
material. As the shadow is integrated, however, we can evolve spiritually and
come into our full potential. Though at first frightening, this inner vampire
teaches virtue.
It is true, there are Seven Vampire Virtues and if anyone knows about them it
is Robert M. Place, artist and author of The Vampire Tarot, published by St
Martin’s Press in 2009. Place based his tarot on the legends and iconographic
figures of Brahm Stoker’s Dracula . With the Vampire Virtue Candles, Place has
taken the lessons of the Dracula characters and translated them into virtues we
can use in our 21st century world. This line of candles boasts 7 Virtuous
vampires and is 2” wide by 7.5” high with a 50+ hour burn time.
Robert Place’s Vampires inspired the candle makers to carefully chose the
blend of oils and color to enhance the magic of each Virtue. The result is a
line of candles that appeals to all the senses and bring healing to all the
levels of the self; including the darker, shadow side. The dark side of the self
is often rejected as negative or "not of God", but in actuality, the dark side
of the self is where we learn to overcome adversity and find strength.

Dracula Lord of Cunning - Vampire
Virtues Candle
Cunning the Virtue of the Trickster and the Hero
Cunning is often associated with villains such as the Norse god
Loki or the Serpent in Eden, but it is also shared by trickster
heroes such as Hermes, who stole his brother’s cattle, or
Odysseus, who used cunning to defeat the Trojans and to make his
way home to Ithaca. In the novel Dracula, the count is portrayed
as a medieval general, who in life commanded armies and used
cunning to defeat his enemies. Undead for centuries, Dracula had
time to perfect this virtue and the band heroes, seems
out-matched. The heroine, Mina, however, is able to enter a
trance in which she spies on Dracula and leads the heroes to
victory. The story teaches us that it is the guidance provided
by intuition that is the ultimate source of cunning.

strength of ten men, but his greatest strength lied in his
ability to control forces outside of himself, such as wolves,
rats, and the weather. These were abilities that Lucy was just
beginning to learn after Dracula turned her. To truly control an

to deny our passions but to fulfill them in a way that brings
balance, health, and beauty. It is not about denying ourselves
but about having things in the correct proportions so that they
bring pleasure and build a sound body. Instead of excess or
poverty, temperance teaches us proportion and beauty, which is

Weird Sisters, Agents of Justice - Vampire
Virtues Candle
The Weird Sisters the Virtue of Justice
Justice, as is well-known, holds scales and a sword. Her scales
symbolize her impartial quest for truth and her sword the
responsibility to set events right once the truth is unveiled.
Earthly justice is also intended to reflect the cosmic principle
of balance, also known as karma. Stoker chose to name Dracula’s

Shakespeare's Macbeth. Although the Sisters in either story may
seem to be an odd choice to represent justice, they are based on
