Pets We Love!

I have gotten so many great comments about the picture of our dog, Jack, that we have on the website, that I wanted to have a page were people could send in stories and pictures of the fur-babies that help fill their days with unconditional love! Send your stories to info@magicalomaha.com

Our Guard dog Jack- If he barks we know there is nothing to fear. This is our sweet, silly English Pointer, Jack, that we rescued from the Humane Society. He had been abandoned as he was not the hunting dog his original owners had bought him for (Jack hides behind me when the cat across the street is out and about). Jack will howl when Charlie and I hug because he is not getting the attention! He stares at me when I am sitting on the couch because I am in HIS spot! He is fun and goofy and has filled our lives with love. It amazes me how much we love something covered with fur!

Billie Sent us this picture of lovely Katse, Billie writes,

"We adopted Katse about 2 yrs ago. She was not treated very well by her previous owner. We had to have her teeth removed due to them being broken. Now she is one of the best cats ever, but very demanding. She owns us, we also have 2 other cats that she  plays with, but still her fav toy is my husbands arm. We have enjoyed her being in our lives, we hope you enjoy meeting her as well.  Billie"

Roger, from Omaha, sent us this picture of his new cutie, Lucy. Roger writes:

"I adopted an Irish Wolfhound from the humane Society Her name was "Candy" and she was 10 years old she died this year in May 5th .She was 18 years old . A month later, we were visiting the humane society and I fell in love with a little golden retriever/black Lab mix she was 4 months old  Boy get ready for puppy hood. Her name is "Lucy" and She owns me completely, and Runs me ragged and I love her to pieces. She is extremely smart and loves to take the cushions off the couch pillows as well hope you enjoy the photo
Roger"

I love this picture, he looks like he's winking!

Jaci and Wes from Montana sent us this picture of Buddy.
Jaci writes:

"We've had him for 4 years now We adopted him from the Greenbay Humane Society.  When we looked at his records, we saw another couple had decided to adopt him but then decided against it. The humane society was going to put him to sleep in 2 days, because nobody wanted him. Buddy had no training.

He has been with us for 4 years now, and has earned a nickname. "Buddy" is  his given name, but we also call him "Meathead".  He is a very silly German/Short-haired Pointer mix. He is now around 8-9 years old, and very smart in most cases, unless there's food involved! LOL But, he's our boy and we love him "

Erika adds a new member to her family :

Adding one to the lineup-
This is Bam Bam, a couple of you may recognize him, I hope one day he will be a good ambassador for his breed (he's a papillon).  He definitely adds a spark of life to my household and a sense of spirit that we've been missing...  I've already learned many great lessons from him (dogs do fly- or so he thought as he leapt from the cat tree).  I can't wait to see what all is in store for us, it'll surely be exciting!

Kelly sent us pics of her cute kitty, Jade:

Kelly wrote:

This is my baby, the one thing that makes me truly happy. Her name is Jade, and my name is Kelly, and although I chose her name because I liked the sound of it, is interesting that both of our names are shades of green and green happens to be my favorite color!

Karen B sent us these pics of her cat, Sir Ewok.

Karen writes "I thought I would send you photos of my Himalayan Ragdoll mix cat.  His name is Sir Ewok!  He came with the name Ewok and I just added the Sir but we just call him Lil' "E".  We ended up getting him because he was the runt of the litter and well....to be kind.....not the cutest kitten on block.  Nobody wanted him.  But hey just look at him now!!  He's really gentle and cuddly and he ended up being the cutest little dude!!  I'll even include a copy of his baby picture along with what he looks like now.

Yes, Sir Ewok is a great looking cat!

Michele, From Omaha, sent us these pics of her pretty kitties!

Angela, From Manitoba, sent the below pictures of her sweet dogs:

Angela writes:

I blush, but I found your pets page, and I wanted to post pics of my babies. The little (55 lbs little) white one is Galahad. The bigger fawn one is Oberon. They are two fantastic purebred great danes who make my busy life tolerable, and my sleep intolerable (I've lost much of my bed to them, and Galadad is going to be a pillow hog - who knows what will happen when I get my third, in a couple years). But I love them to a fault. They are spoiled, and each has such a different personality - Oberon is stoic and reserved, but still smiles when he has had a good run - he stays up with me all night if I'm studying, but then is cranky in the morning. Galahad is a little clown, he is chatty and talks back, especially when you get mad at him, and definitely knows how to pull Oberon's strings.

Thanks for letting me get in my two cents!

Down Under Kittie!

Trisha, from New Zealand sent us this picture of her beautiful cat, Willow

Trisha writes:

Willow is the youngest of three cats who live at our home in Auckland, New Zealand. He is now three years old. He came to us through the force of his sheer will and determination! A friend of mine used to live at a small farm. One day she woke to hearing a yowling cat cry coming from the bottom of the fields below her house - quite a long distance a way. She went to investigate - but everytime she came close to the sound it would stop. So she called me and my partner - knowing we were major cat lovers - and all three of us took to trying to find the creature that belonged to the very distressed cry. The place he was, was near a river stream - covered in wild blackberries and brambles, and tree matter - next to a shingle covered country road. It was mid-summer and very hot. The three of us coaxed him and coaxed him, and had to shimmy through brambles -scratching ouselves up in the process - until he finally let us get hold of him. We were surprised to find that this huge cry, had come from a wee wee kitten no more than a week or two old. He was in bad shape - but a real survivor. He had been abandoned by the side of the road, we assume with the rest of the litter he came from - but he was the only one that had made it. We called him Willow - after the biggest Tree near where we found him which was a weeping Willow. We loved him back to health - and he has grown to be the most rascally, loveable, playful, and personality-filled member of our clan. Allthough he is fairly small in stature because of his hard start, his spirit is as big as they come. His bravery and sheer force of will is a constant reminder to me of what we can achieve if we never give up.

Heather from Mahwah, NJ  sent us these pictures of her two beloved Cats, Jezebel (below) and Caterina (further down)

Jezebel

these pics are of my cat jezebel.  i found her at my job under the loading docks with three other kittens.  i picked her out because she just clung to me like she didn't want me to let go.  also, that beautiful stripe on her nose caught my heart.  her mother, at the time, we all had thought at work, had abandoned her.  turns out a week later we saw her mother in the road.  that was really sad but made me even more glad i made the choice to take her home.  i took her to the vet as soon as i brought her home.  she was two and a half weeks old!  so young!  she was held a lot and cuddled and very spoiled.  she was bottle fed with mother's milk substitute till she was old enough on top of all the other "nature" necessities!  at first some of the other things such as the bathroom stuff was not easy but i got used to it really quick.  i loved this little girl and nothing was gonna stop me from taking care of her and watching her grow up.  my parents helped to care for her while i was working.  my father never liked cats but he developed a bond with this little tyke and to this day loves her to death!  who would have thought!  i had a feeling, at the time and since i'm pretty good at that stuff, that she WAS a girl and i was so happy when the vet confirmed that!  i had her name picked and i didn't want to change it.

the worst part of all of it was at about six months to have her fixed.  i didn't want her to go through that but it was necessary.  she handled it so well.  right after the surgery the vet assistants said she was up and about in her cage standing on her back legs ready to play!  she came home like nothing happened.  a few hours later she was groggy and slept under the christmas tree a lot.  i had brought her home in August and by December the vet decided it was time for her to be fixed.
by that time she was already trained for the litter box and eating regular food.  since then she has grown!  she is a good eight pounds or so!  she has this cute little belly on her and she is spoiled.  every day around lunchtime she has to have her fresh turkey meat and cheese and she gets it!
she does not "meow" very often unless she wants in a room where the door is shut but she makes the cutest quirky kitty sounds i have ever heard.  when she runs, if you are downstairs, it sounds like an elephant running around!  she loves high places and when she gets hyper she goes crazy.  this was all before catnip of course!
this august she will be three years old and she is a bunch of fluff.  our vet said she was not a long haired cat but medium hair.  her tail is all fluff and her back legs with all the fur make her look like she has fuzzy pants on.  it has been and was a very rewarding experience to raise and nurture her into the adult she is today even though she goes totally crazy and has an unending obsession with water!

Caterina

this is caterina.  may she rest in peace.  we got her in the year of about 1988 when i was in second grade.  she was a beautiful kitten.  i watched her grow up and get older as the years went on.  she was very special to me as she was my first cat.  when i was a child i used to put her in my basket on my bicycle and ride around with her.  i even used to dress her up!  that poor kittie!  she used to sleep on my bed every night too.  for a while she had this attitude of "leave me alone!" but one time she got very sick but she did recover.  after that she always wanted attention and needed to be in someone's lap.  she ended up having a heart condition and we did not think she was going to make it but she kept going strong for nearly two years.  i think at the end she gave it her all for us because she knew we all loved her and wanted her to be better and be happy.  i was with her the night she let go.  it was a very sad, hurtful, words almost can't describe, moment for all of us but she was at peace.  her last weeks i held her close to me to keep her warm and so she knew that she was loved.  i think she did.  we had her nearly 17 years or so and she was treasured for every moment and remains in our hearts.

Erica, from Papillion, NE  has three pets she adores. Erica writes:

My sidekicks, Bojack, Jasmine and Mandy, they’re the best.  Bojack is always wanting to help out, as you can see from the picture, he found the catnip all by himself!  Jasmine is the sweetest little thing, she always knows when I need a little friend to cheer me up or a funny perfect picture moment.  Mandy is the greatest companion dog.  She is so well behaved and always ready for tricks and to just “hang out.”  I cannot imagine my house without them, they would brighten up anyone’s day.  I rescued them from the Humane Society, and they rescued me in return.

Susan Elizabeth in Washington wrote about her dog Rosie Tank-

Rosie Tank is half-Shar Pei and half-Labrador Retriever, a Sharprador.  She is 9-months-old and is training to be a service dog.  Originally it was thought that she was male since she was the largest in the litter, so she was named Tank by the breeder.  My daughter liked the name Tank but also wanted to name her Rosie.  She is very smart and very, very silly - rightfully earning her nickname of "Nuttbutt", which she also responds to as well as her "real" name.  She loves playing in pools and streams but doesn't like getting her feet wet or going out in the rain.  She also has lots to say, especially when sent to time out, when she always gives a speech on what she thinks of her punishment, the longest being 8 minutes, without pause.  One of her favorite games is to pin down the cat and lick him until he is soaked and squeaking to be released - then she curls up and uses him as a pillow to sleep.

Scott, from Eureka, CA tells us about his beloved cats:

I was raised with a dog and had no desire to ever have a cat! or cats! My wife and I were both in the Marine Corps and stationed at Quantico, VA and in 1989, she began wanting a cat, for five or six months I opposed this as I could never think of owning a cat! I finally gave in and we found a seven month old kitten we named Tigger (yes, after the Whinnie the Pooh friend!) she was shy and hiding in the back behind her brothers and sisters and she's the one my wife picked out! I didn't take to her right away, but as with time, I came to love this cat, born in 1989 and she came across country with me in the largest Ryder Truck after we both were discharged from the Marine Corps and by this time, a bond was formed between Tigger and I.  Of course having a dog, I never knew how to tell a female cat from the male, so when we took HIM to the vet, we no more walked in the door when the vet called and told us HE was a SHE and did we still want her fixed and declawed? We said yes, I for one played with Tigger all the time and at night as I came to find out, cats love the nights, if my foot moved under the sheet in the bed, Tigger was always there to claw my foot up! Imagine a U.S. Marine limping to work because his foot is bandaged after being attacked by his own cat! When our son, James was born, Tigger didn't know what the new smell was we brought in the home, she cautiously sniffed our son over and over.  Of course the first time James began crying, Tigger took off thinking she was in trouble, in no time James and Tigger became good friends except for those teething times when our son would chew on Tigger's ears and she had a rather, well, "help me!" look on her face! When James was four he wanted a cat to take care of and then I would never say "No!" and our son picked out the "runt" of the group left outside a local Rite Aid and a woman decided to take them to her home and run an ad so they could be adopted.  Our son, James named his cat, Pepper,  and  I came to discover every cat has their own unique personality except Tigger and Pepper almost look identical, other than Pepper has spots on her tummy which is why James named her Pepper! And to this day, James is the only one and he's 15 years old now who can pick Pepper up like a baby and cuddle her and she will let him.  Pepper also keeps me company while I am one the computer, she sits to the right of me now, I really believe  she is a spell checker!!! Pepper also will eat anything, if it moves she will try it once! In many ways I think Pepper believes she's a dog as she doesn't "meow" but sort of "barks" both of our cats are girls and every night it is a battle for me to go to bed as Tigger is the rightful Queen of our Home and she knows it! And Pepper has a habit of sleeping on my leg and most mornings she will get up before my alarm clock goes off and as I get up, the first step I am always on the floor having not realized that my leg is numb and now with pins and needles as I lay face first on the floor, but Tigger comes to my rescue or perhaps to laugh as I always "fall" for Peppers trick! Pepper also enjoys the DVD-The Cure's Greatest Hits while Tigger is more of a drama DVD kitty! I have also come to realize as these years have gone by life is so much more enjoyable with a cat by my side and while Tigger is very old now and rarely comes out of the bedroom other than to eat, drink and use the litter box, my cats have taught me they are smarter than most human beings and in the next life perhaps I may return as a cat! It can be said that Tigger and I are in a way-married! I know it sounds strange, however, she and I have been together since 1989 and at night when the lights are out if I turn over to sleep on my right side, well, within ten seconds Tigger is coming over to sleep by my head on my right side and if I change sides, she's coming across my leg to be with me and that is unconditional LOVE! As I am a 100% disabled veteran and have gotten older, I've seen Tigger get older as well and slow down compared to 1989! She can no longer jump up on the window perch to look outside, so when I get a new bed, I keep in mind my best girl still loves to smell the outdoors and look at what's going on next door and at night I keep the window slightly open so Tigger can smell the night air and here in Northern California our winters are windy and lots of rain and if by chance rain is coming in the window, Tigger and Pepper will head butt me until I wake up to close the window! I also have Obstructive Sleep Apnea and have to use a C-PAP Machine when I sleep, sometimes I knock off the mask in my sleep and when Tigger and Pepper hear the rushing air of the mask, they know that's not right so they head butt me until I wake up and realize what's going on and put the mask back on! One time when this happened Tigger even put her paw in my mouth and to this day I haven't figured out if she was trying to wake me up? or just do me in? And living in California also means I live in, yes, Bigfoot country, but also, earthquake country as well.  My two girls are my Early Warning Radar System when it comes to earthquakes! All I have to do is watch them because at the same time, they will raise their heads with ears pointed in the same direction and I watch the clock and within 15-20 seconds, the mobile home I live in will roll a little, and now an earthquake needs to be over 5.0 before my two ladies will scatter under the bed and yet leave me to fend for myself! And many say, "cats aren't smart!" They can fit under the bed!  Why do I love these two furry girls? They have taught me what unconditonal love is and  Pepper enjoys Friday nights as I watch a DVD with popcorn and yes, Pepper loves popcorn (no butter though!)  Tigger is content to sit tall and noble as only she can to let me know she's still my best girl and Queen of the home and what is supposed to be my bed during the day is Tigger and Pepper's napping bed and many will say I should toss them on the floor but Tigger and Pepper are family and I wouldn't toss them outdoors as both are strictly indoor girls and have no desire to venture outside! I have many converstations with my two cats and I know they understand me, all I have to do is watch the movements of their tells, I know my talking is boring them when Tigger lets a loud "snort" through her nose and well, Pepper just rolls over and goes to sleep anyway, but I wouldn't want it to be any other way for me and the two cats I love! Even when I'm outside the home I look in the window and speak to my cats and my neighbors laugh and have a chuckle as I do voices for all the neighborhood cats, I never knew the life of a cat until I had two of my own! And when I go to San Francisco for my appointment at the VA Hospital every six months, yes, even I call home just to leave a message for my two best girls to let them know I'll be coming home soon! I feel that 2007 might be the last year for Tigger here and while it makes me sad, I also think about all the joy she's brought me and no, I haven't forgotten her in her elderly cat years, if she needs help she knows I'm here for her! And Pepper, no longer a kitten, but a fiesty cat with the sound of a dog is no longer roaming constantly, I know too, she's getting old and I will be here for her as well.  After all, Tigger and Pepper have helped me quite a bit as well and brough me many hours of happiness and laughter and that is why I love my two girls so much! I'm sorry I don't have a picture to send, I still haven't gotten used to this computer or purchased a camera for it, my son, James is the computer genius, no me! Pepper is letting me know that it is time to close and if anyone should say a cat can't tell time-they haven't met mine! So this is a brief story of why I love my two cats along with the fact I can get Pepper, all I have to do is hold a mirror in front of her just as she comes in the door or around a corner and she sees herself and thinks a new cat is invading our home! Thank you all for reading and yes, Pepper is asleep and letting me know it is late! Good nite! Scott, Tigger and Pepper, Eureka, CA
