The Ferret Tarot
By Elaine Moertl
78 card deck. When I saw this deck it made me laugh. The Ferret Tarot is a self
published and very limited edition deck of 500 copies. Originally it begun as a
fun project by the artist Elaine Moertl and ended in a full 78 card Tarot deck.
Although it is in black and white,
very simple, spare in fashion, with little detail for the background. The focus
is on the ferret. There are traditional posed ferrets like the Hermit and Star,
while the Emperor, Temperance are just plain cute and funny. You will laugh as
they take you on your quest.
There are 78 cards plus two extras, which are the signed and numbered title
cards, with a sample spreads such as the Ferret Stomp and Weasel Dance also the
Three Card Dook. They have a reversible design on the backs and are packaged in
a lined Tarot pouch. They do not have fancy round edges or are they laminated so
it is wise to take extra care with these cards. However there is one advantage,
you can be your own artist and with colored pencils then spray a fixative to set
the colors.
Some of the 78 cards do come with
a small card sized booklet with a intro and short meaning of the cards (only
upright position). They each have a humorous phrase and several keywords.
A deck for the young at heart and definitely a collectors deck. Also for those
who love the little Ferrets.
You will find they bring smiles and laughter as you use them.
